Songwriter and songstress Keri Hilson has decided that she would like her next big project to be assisting in the long awaited comeback of Hip-Hop/soul singer Lauryn Hill.
In an interview with WENN, Hilson reveals that she has been a Lauryn Hill fan for years and to work with the Fugee would be a dream come true.
“Lauryn Hill is someone who is very candid with her music,” Keri said in the interview. “I have no intent to create some character for the sake of entertainment, I mean, I respect those who do, there are different avenues for entertainment but I loved her candidness, her candor, she’s just up there. She exposes all sides of herself, her vulnerabilities, insecurities but you also see the strength and her innocence.”
Hilson, who has written for industry giants including Mary J. Blige and Brittney Spears states that with Hill making the announcement of concert series in 2011, she feels that now, is the right time to collaborate.
“I just appreciate seeing a woman in true form and that’s what I try to do with my music as well,” Hilson continued. “So I figure it would be an awesome collaboration.”
Hilson’s sophomore album No Boys Allowed dropped Tuesday, and she also had the honor of being the first star to perform in Billboard’s first ever “Tastemakers” event.
Performing two singles off of the album, Hilson explained that the motivation behind the album was not to bash men, but to empower women.
“I don’t do music about the façades and fronts about women,” Hilson told Billboard. “I don’t do music to paint myself perfect. I do music that empowers women to be themselves against all odds.”
No Boys Allowed is in stores now.
