A vegan culture Hip-Hop will never be confused for. Beef in the rap game isn’t just a by-product of hungry rappers who tend to step on each others toes when they gets to beasting. It’s damn near necessary. It can be a power-up in a game where players can be considered levels behind their peers and predecessors. Basically it’s something that helps drive them to creative heights that even they didn’t know they could reach.

On the other hand tofu is the result of misunderstandings, pettiness, and overall struggle. Comprised of artificial ingredients, tofu in Hip-Hop does nothing for the culture other than leave everyone scratching their heads and rubbing their bellies.

2016 saw it’s fair share of beef get seasoned and a whole lot of tofu get served up for mass consumption.

Future Vs. Russell Wilson Via Ciara

This would’ve been funny had it not been so petty. For the past year Future and his babymama, Ciara, had been doing the most to throw each other’s reputations under the bus. But things went off the rails when Future began to threaten Seattle Seahawks star quarterback, Russell Wilson (with emojis no less), after pictures were released of baby Future having fun with his new step-daddy in a baby Russell Wilson jersey.

Drake Vs. Pusha T

After many back-n-forth subliminals, hardcore Hip-Hoppers had been hoping for Pusha T to bless with Drake with some hard bars chockfull of nuts, but nothing ever materialized. Even after Drake sent a not so subliminal shot to Pusha on “Two Birds, One Stone,” Pusha brushed it off without so much as a “f*ck him.” In all fairness, this went down while Pusha T was on his political ish, so we guess he decided to go high after the 6 God went low.

Lil Yachty vs. “The Old Heads”

You can chalk this up to plain ‘ol adolescent ignorance. Lil Yachty caught all kinds of backlash from Hip-Hop OG’s such as Pete Rock when amongst all things said he couldn’t name five songs from The Notorious B.I.G. or Tupac (the two G.O.A.T.s). Later on he caught more heat when said that Biggie was “overrated.”

21 Savage vs. Tyga Over Kylie Jenner

Unlike Kim Kardashian who would only “date” the most established celebrities and athletes, Kylie Jenner has apparently become the patron saint of struggle rappers. Namely her plus 1/income tax dependent, Tyga, and apparently 21 Savage. While the back-n-forth between Tyga and 21 has kept their social media accounts entertaining, it was ultimately much ado about nothing.

Funk Flex vs. “Mumble Rappers” & Bow Wow

Another case of the older generation telling today’s kids to get off their lawns. In a wild rant earlier this month, Funk Flex went off on “mumble” rappers Lil Yachty and Bow Wow (who’s probably just happy to have made some headlines) for their lack of skills and comprehensibility on the mic. Well, he’s not wrong.

Meek Mill Vs. Beanie Sigel

This was just sad all around. Just when it seemed like the OG Broad Street Bully, Beanie Sigel was going to form a formidable tandem with his fellow Philly brethren, Meek Mill, it all fell apart like bootleg Jordans in the rain. After Beanie made amends with Meek’s enemy, The Game, the mud slinging began and all kinds of underlying dirt was dug up on both parties until it ended with Beanie Sigel getting KO’d backstage at the Bad Boy Reunion show. Or did it?

Kid Cudi vs. Drake & Kanye West

Again, why? An obviously troubled Kid Cudi took to social media and threw out what most felt was a cry for help when he called out Drake and Kanye West for fakin’ the funk. Kid Cudi eventually entered rehab and while Kanye was sympathetic to Cudi’s struggle, Drake on the other hand… not so much. Eventually, Kid Cudi and Kanye made amends just in time to see Kanye struggle with his own demons and end up in a psych ward. Drake meanwhile continues his quest to crush all of the world’s most renowned derriers.
