It seems Cardi B is the only person having a better 2017 than Virgil Abloh. His OFF WHITE x Air Jordan 1 was just named “Shoe of the Year” by Footwear News.
Set for a November 9 street date, the OFF WHITE x Air Jordan 1 is a very limited release that sees the iconic sneaker being deconstructed and reinvented by Abloh. The shoe gives the medial side a noticeable face lift with “Off-White TM for NIKE “AIR JORDAN 1″ Beverton, Oregon USA c. 1985” typewriter branding in place of the swoosh. The Nike check still lives on the lateral side but is held in place by blue stitching.
He kept the build out premium as well with leather, suede and mesh all used in the sneaker’s construction. Additionally four different lace options are included. The OFF WHITE x Air Jordan 1 is one of ten classic Nike sneakers that have been re-imagined by Virgil in the “The Ten” Collection.
This prestigious award puts the creative in an elite design space; previous winners include Rihanna’s Fenty Puma and Kanye West’s YEEZY footwear line. Earlier this year OFF WHITE was nominated for a British Fashion Award.
