The Top 5 Hip-Hop Twitter Rants of 2011
Yesterday’s Twitter barrages by both Deiondra Sanders & Pill got us to thinking; which collection of “140 characters or less” shots were the best of 2011? As the year wraps up, it’s always good to reflect on the past, in order to make better decisions in the future. In this case, let’s hope some of these artists log off and go to the studio instead of venting their frustrations and personal gripes for the world to see, and retweet.
The YMCMB soldier has had more than one incident. Who can forget his epic battle within himself, where he hinted at committing suicide. This year he chose to calm it down some, and instead of inflicting pain upon himself, he took aim at his competition and the entire Hip-Hop industry.
But before he vented about the competition, who can forget when he got fake tweeted with regards to his acting skills? Mr. Moss didn’t take too kindly to that, and this resulted.
The Game is usually stirring up some sorta controversy whether it his countless shots at Jay-Z or beating up belligerent fans. But before his blunder of 2011, there was the Epic Fail a year earlier when he attempted to organize a G-Unit Reunion.
However in 2011, it seems like Game wanted to turn his tweets up a notch, and involved Law Enforcement. Game sent out a tweet to his followers, which totaled 580,000 at the time, to call a phone number if they were interested in an internship. Naturally calls began to pour in by the 1,000’s. But the number provided was actually the help line to the Compton Sheriff’s Station.
While this was a hilarious prank, it almost got The Game in some serious trouble, as charges ranged from harassment, to delaying or obstructing a peace officer in the performance of their duties. Yikes!
It’s crazy to think, that if not for Twitter, no one would know what Jay Electronica is doing with himself. It’s almost as if he drops one record every six months. While he may be touring and working on his album, we have almost nothing to validate those assumptions.
One thing we do know, is that Jay Elec does like to drink. In fact, he enjoys indulging in adult beverages so much, that he decided to tweet while doing so.
But then he decided to take it to the next level and tweet his BM (Baby’s Mother), Erykah Badu.
While only those two know what their relationship is like, telling her that you’re horny via Twitter may not be the best of moves. May we soon get more music, less drunken Twitter, and better grammar from the New Orleans Native.
Mr. Savage Life has to be the owner of the funniest Social Media Rant of 2011. Notice it says Social Media and not just Twitter. Yes Webbie also reiterated his tweets via YouTube.
While surely he was very serious in what he was saying, the fact that it seemed random to everyone along with what followed the Tweets is where the comedy lies. No need to translate, because it sounds 10x better coming from Webbie himself.
First there was this…
Then there was this…
To this day that alleged ban seems to still exist as Blind Fury has recently stated that he’s protesting BET in support of Webbie. Maybe in 2012 Webbie will be allowed to grace the 106 & Park stage again. But then again, that may mean that Rocsi would have to be working elsewhere. That said, pray Webbie doesn’t catch Terrance J out in these streets.
The undisputed Twitter Rant Champion is Chris Brown. It seemed as if Breezy is always good for at least two quality rants per year. 2011 saw Chris get in a hilarious battle with members of Odd Future and Frank Ocean. Bare with me, this is a pretty long rant. (Start from the bottom, up)
Then of all people, The Game tries to play the peacemaker.
Please not, this version is the trimmed down one. The other members of Odd Future decided to make their presence felt as well (jump over here for the all the tweets). Chris needs to allow things to just fly by. As we witnessed, the slightest comment, which began as a “compliment,” can turn into a full blown mess. Although Tyler’s tweet about “Look At Me Now” coming on afterwards was pretty funny.
Until 2012, @TheKidSkoob
