Detective McNulty From The Wire AKA Dominic West Has Bars? [VIDEO]

The Wire, HBO’s celebrated crime drama, has more staying power than a little bit due to the ongoing careers of some the show’s beloved characters. However, nothing could have prepared us to see Detective Jimmy McNulty, aka Dominic West, spitting bars in a cipher.

While it might appear that McNutty – as Bubs the dope fiend used to call him – appears like the old man in the cipher trying get off bars, he was actually doing a little film promotion. The film Guillemot, which focuses on the lives of youth in the English city of Nottingham, makes its debut in Britain February 3. Prince Harry is slated to be one of the honored guests at the premiere according to the BBC.

A nonprofit group project known as the Full Effect Youth Program put together the movie, which does not star West, but the actor does take time to interview some of the stars of the film.

West was a guest on British channel Smokey Barz TV, joining three young rappers who are part of Full Effect’s efforts to help troubled youth from the St. Ann’s neighborhood.

Actor Dominic West, aka Detective Jimmy McNulty from The Wire, makes his SB.TV debut with this Warm Up featuring Sinead, Bugsey & Jah Digga, three fresh talents from the Community Recording Studio, Nottingham.

He did this to promote the film Guillemot, which was shot by and stars young people from St Ann’s estate in Nottingham.

The story of the film follows the journey of 16 year old Tylar who is made homeless, is the victim of assault, and is faced with some difficult life choices with little support. It covers issues faced by many young people today, but has been made to showcase the talent within St Ann’s, and to prove what can be achieved when a community comes together. Positive vibes! Big up all the #SelfBelievers.

Although West just drops the delightfully awkward chorus, it does appear his heart is in the right place and the grin on his face shows he’s at least having a blast while doing it.
