As Election Day comes to a close, the votes were close but one winner prevailed during this year’s presidential election. Americans cast their votes, and re-elected Barack Obama as president, Tuesday (Nov. 6). Running neck-and-neck in several important states like Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and North Carolina, the outcome of this year’s presidential election was anyone’s game. After grabbing the win, Obama, released a statement on the victory via Twitter. “We’re all in this together. That’s how we campaigned, and that’s who we are. Thank you.” Over the last several months, both candidates have battled over health care, foreign policy, and the dwindling economy. Upon his inauguration in 2009, President Obama inherited dismal employment numbers, which have been virtually unchanged over his four years in office. While job reports showed small gains in employment, opposers of the Obama administration criticized the commander in chief for not keeping in line with his 2008 campaign promise of “change.” Four years later, Mitt Romney recycled the stance during the latter half of his campaign. More than 100 million people cast their votes in this year’s election, voting to give the president four more years to get the country back in order. Yet given partisan separation between the House and the Senate many advise that Obama will have another tough four years. After confirming the victory, Romney conceded that Obama has won the presidency during a speech in Massachusetts. See post-election photos, from both sides, below.
